Drew Brees retired after the 2020 season, and he had to pass the torch to another member of the Saints. It was not passed to the new starting QB Jameis Winston, who was re-signed this offseason, but to the guy that lines up behind him under center: Alvin Kamara. Kamara has all the credentials to be the new face of the franchise, as he has the highlight plays, swag, and diamond teeth. He can do everything on a football field, and catching and running the football clearly comes easily to him. In his four years in the league, Kamara has put up over 1,000 yards from scrimmage with 58 touchdowns, and he is the perfect dual-threat running back every team wishes they had.
Winston has a huge task in front of him trying to be half of what Drew Brees was. I do not believe the turnover machine can live up to such lofty expectations, and the Saints will likely be platooning quarterbacks all year between Winston and Taysom Hill. Their safety blanket will not be Michael Thomas because I do not think their QBs can physically throw the ball to him accurately enough. This is going to be a completely different offense without Brees, and the quarterbacks will be heavily reliant on the stud running back. I believe Kamara will have a 2,000-yard season from scrimmage, carrying the Saints into the playoffs while playing his way into MVP consideration.
Alvin Kamara needs to be a top-five pick in your fantasy draft, especially if you are in any kind of PPR league. I expect Kamara to have his first 1,000 yard rushing season in 2021, as well as pulling off a 1,000-yard receiving season. I am taking him over Saquon Barkley, Ezekiel Elliot, and Dalvin Cook. That is how much I believe in Kamara this year. Draft Alvin Kamara, you will not regret it.
