Alvin Kamara: Days Of Fantasy Dominance Are Over

Is anybody rushing to go get Alvin Kamara in fantasy anymore? I know I’m not. Now that Kamara has been suspended for the first three games of the 2023-24 NFL Season, it might be fair to start questioning if Kamara will ever be a dominant fantasy player again. If you’re asking me, I’d probably go with the days of Kamara being a force in fantasy football are over.

The writing is on the wall here. Kamara finished as RB18 in fantasy last year but that was really due to a massive Week 8 game where he had over 33 points. From Week 9 on last year, Kamara finished as RB36.

He also hasn’t looked like the same player since Sean Payton left town. That needs to be mentioned. It’s hard to trust the Saints’ offense given the fact that Dennis Allen finds a way to lose games. I talk about this all the time but you don’t want running backs on bad teams. I just can’t trust the Saints because Dennis Allen has given me no reason to.

Furthermore, the Saints are adding more and more competition to this backfield. It’s not just the Kamara show with Mark Ingram taking the tough inside runs. New Orleans gave money to Jamaal Williams, drafted Kendre Miller, and now just signed Kareem Hunt. Are we sure the Saints aren’t done with Kamara? Maybe not done but have clearly have intentions to do so in the future. Keep in mind, Kamara has a pretty large contract I’m sure they want to move off of.

I really don’t have any interest in Kamara for fantasy anymore. Outside of him being free, I’d pass. Right now Kamara is being ranked as a top 25-30 RB and I think that’s just way too high. I’d much rather take the shot on younger options that have a chance to take that next step like James Cook or Isiah Pacheco.
