Alex Pereira, Jamahal Hill Named UFC 300 Main Event
After months of anticipation, the UFC 300 main event has been announced. UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira will defend his title against former champion Jamahal Hill. UFC CEO Dana White announced the news on X.
Pereira had a quick rise to the top of the sport. In just 11 MMA fights, he has held gold in two divisions and has beaten four champions. UFC 300 will be his first attempt at defending the light heavyweight title since winning the vacant title against Jiri Prochazka.
Hill won the UFC light heavyweight title with an impressive win over Glover Teixeira, but he was forced to vacate the title after suffering a torn Achilles. That injury helped fast-track Pereira’s light heavyweight title run as he was pushed into the aforementioned fight against Prochazka.
This fight will allow Pereira or Hill to plant their flag as the best light-heavyweight on the planet while leaving the questions surrounding the division in the past.
This bout will have a personal edge to it as well. Pereira served as a cornerman for Teixeira the night Hill defeated the veteran to earn the title. At UFC 300, Pereira will have a chance to avenge his friend.
From a stylistic perspective, this fight projects to be a war. Pereira and Hill are both high-level strikers who will engage in a brawl. In the past, both fighters have logged a litany of violent knockout to their high-light reel. In their bout against one another, they will likely look to continue that trend.
With Pereira and Hill atop the bill, UFC 300 is nearly complete. In White’s UFC 298 post-fight press conference, he stated the promotion has one more fight that needs to be announced. At this point in the process, the card is stacked with title fights, entertaining bouts, and recognizable fighters.
