Alex DeBrincat is coming home. The Farmington Hills, Michigan native will return to his home state after the Detroit Red Wings executed a trade with the Ottawa Senators for DeBrincat’s services. DeBrincat is also signing a four-year extension as part of the trade.
When asked about the trade, DeBrincat calls the return to Michigan a ‘dream come true’:
“Growing up here and rooting for the Red Wings when I was younger, it’s definitely a dream come true,” DeBrincat told reporters Monday. “I don’t think anyone’s happier than my parents and my full family.”
DeBrincat, 25, was acquired from Ottawa for Dominik Kubalik, prospect Donovan Sebrango, a 2024 conditional first-rounder and a 2024 fourth-round pick. I have to disagree with Bagdonas on the trade grades post. I thought Ottaway got robbed. Kubalik stinks and or is a shell of the goal scoring that DeBrincat is. It’s also pennies on the dollar compared to what they gave up the first go around with Chicago.
One season ago DeBrincat pocketed 27 goals and 39 assists. However, the former Blackhawks draftee has scored 41 goals in two separate seasons. In Detroit while playing more high leverage minutes, DeBrincat should revert back to that dominant goal scoring form.
General manager Steve Yzerman has been busy this offseason. He’s made a flurry of moves most notably signing JT Compher to a mega contract to be the team’s second line center. James Reimer, Shayne Gostisbehere, Gustav Lindstrom, Tim Gettinger, Daniel Sprong, Christian Fischer, and Matt Luff were also added this offseason thus far.
