After a memorable nine-year NFL career, linebacker Alec Ogletree has decided to hang up the cleats. Ogletree announced his retirement from the NFL in a Wednesday morning Instagram post.
After a productive three-year stint at Georgia, Ogletree took his talents to the NFL. Drafted by the St. Louis Rams as the 30th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, Ogletree quickly established himself as a force to be reckoned with on the field.
His athleticism, agility, and instincts made him an exceptional linebacker, capable of making crucial plays that turned the tide of any game. With his remarkable ability to read offenses and deliver bone-crushing hits, Ogletree swiftly became a fan favorite and a cornerstone of the Rams’ defense.
Ogletree’s career flourished as he consistently showcased his talents year after year. After spending six seasons with the Rams, he was traded to the New York Giants in 2018, where he continued to display his unwavering dedication and prowess on the field. Throughout his career, Ogletree amassed an impressive collection of accolades, including All-Rookie Team honors in 2013 and selection to the Pro Bowl in 2016.
In nine seasons with several teams, Ogletree’s career may not be Hall of Fame worthy, but he became a fan favorite. Across his career, Ogletree accumulated 531 solo tackles and 233 assisted ones for a total of 764 tackles. In his career, the former Georgia Bulldog played in 111 games.
Alec Ogletree’s impact extended far beyond his on-field performances. He was widely regarded as a leader and mentor within the locker room, known for his work ethic, dedication and unwavering commitment to the game. His professionalism and ability to rally his teammates elevated him to a position of respect, making him an invaluable presence in every team he played for.
