Boston College has a new quarterback and his name is Dylan Lonergan. Bill O’Brien spent time at Alabama once upon a time under Nick Saban as the playcaller. Now he’s taking a quarterback Saban originally recruited.
Lonergan is leaving the Tide to join O’Brien at Boston College.
On3 (which is still a stupid ass name for a site and can’t comprehend the marketing concept behind it) was the first to report the news:
“Alabama transfer quarterback Dylan Lonergan is headed to the ACC. Lonergan has committed to Boston College after spending a pair of seasons at Alabama, per On3’s Hayes Fawcett.“
Lonergan, a former four-star recruit during the 2023 cycle, played sparingly during his time at Bama. In 2023, he redshirted and saw action in one game. The former Brookwood high school alumn completed 5 of 6 passes for 23 yards in 2024.
Let’s not totally undersell this move here. The Eagles have some momentum after a successful first year with O’Brien at the helm. The former Penn State and Houston Texans head coach is Bowl bound after going 7-5 (4-4 in conference) in his debut season. Lonergan figures to be the starter in 2025.
Thomas Castellanos was the starter this past year but entered the portal and has since picked Florida State as his next landing spot. I have no idea why you would willingly go play for Gus Malzahn but that’s the choice Castellanos made. He’s also not a real quarterback and only has a future as a Taysom Hill type of guy. It’s very possible BC upgraded here.
