AEW Rampage was the final show in the Fight For The Fallen event. Fight For The Fallen is an event to help raise money for different charities. They usually have a pay-per-view quality match card given to everyone for free. AEW Rampage is typically jam-packed full of action; this one was no different. In case you missed the show, this is my review of it.
I found this match to be pretty entertaining. It might not be the most intriguing on paper, but I think it definitely delivered. It had good professional wrestling along with some fun spots. I don’t get how anyone can not like Orange Cassidy and his gimmick. It’s so original and entertaining — I can’t get enough of it. I love when Cassidy’s opponents play along with his effortless kicks. This match was a good balance of entertainment and wrestling. Lethal showed he is still good in the ring, and Singh showed some improvements from his last match, which was his first ever. It was a great display of how a match can be a professional wrestling match and purely entertainment.
After the match, Wardlow came out to help when Dutt, Lethal, and Singh attacked the Best Friends. His reasoning wasn’t given, and I was just confused by it. The only thing I can think of is that Lethal is the next challenger for the TNT Championship.
Result: Best Friends def. Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, & Satnam Singh
To me, Ethan Page is one of the most underutilized wrestlers on the AEW roster. The energy he brings is unmatched, and he’s very talented in the ring. AEW could have put a better match in this time slot. I don’t think we needed to see Page beat someone who has yet to win a match this year, across any promotion he’s wrestled on. They should have had a higher-quality match instead of this squash match. I think the end result of the match did do what Page wanted it to do. And that’s to show he’s criminally underused in AEW. Stokely Hathaway and Leila Grey were shown watching the match. It’s safe to assume that Hathaway is going to try to recruit Page since he has been trying to recruit wrestlers as of late.
Result: Ethan Page def. Leon Ruffin
Cole Karter was interviewed backstage and got recruited to join The Factory. He didn’t make a decision yet, but I predict he will join The Factory. Karter hasn’t impressed me with his wrestling abilities. He is young, though, so I think he has the tools there to become a pretty solid wrestler in the future.
In my opinion, Matt Sydal needs a change in character. I’m not buying this “peace, love, and pro wrestling” gimmick he’s doing. I’m also not that high on Lee Moriarty either. He’s a solid professional wrestler and a sneaky good technician, but he needs a different gimmick. The match was pretty good. It was a nice blend of high-flying spots, mixed with some technical wrestling. Moriarty continues to surprise a lot of people with how good he is technically. After the match, Stokely Hathaway came out and gave Moriarty his card. This time, Moriarty accepted it. I think pairing him with Stokely is the right call and can help him with his character.
Result: Lee Moriarty def. Matt Sydal
Claudio Castagnoli spoke for the first time since becoming the new ROH World Champion. Ever since Claudio was in WWE, I have said he was the most underrated wrestler on the planet. So it’s nice to see him get success in AEW/ROH. However, the interview was confusing. We barely heard from Claudio, in fact, it felt like more of a Wheeler Yuta promo than Claudio’s. Although I am intrigued by Yuta vs Chris Jericho next week on Dynamite, where if Yuta wins, he gets to face Jon Moxley for the AEW title. It was also announced that Claudio will defend his title against Konosuke Takeshita at Battle of the Belts on August 6th.
The Acclaimed debuted a music video on AEW Rampage in which they announced the stipulation for their match against the Gunn Club. They picked a dumpster match. It’s unclear what a dumpster match is, but I’m going to assume it’s like a casket match, but with a dumpster instead. Whatever it is, I’m excited about it. I love the Acclaimed, so I’m happy they’re getting more television time.
Ruby Soho is very underutilized in the AEW women’s division. So it’s nice to see her at least be in the main event of a weekly show. I love Jericho Appreciation Society, but I’m not really buying Anna Jay’s gimmick in it. Her constantly shouting that she’ll choke everyone out is a bit of reach to me. However, I did enjoy this match. I think this was probably one of the best Anna Jay matches I’ve seen, and Soho did great as always. It was nice to see the women’s main event at a show like that, since it feels like we haven’t been getting that many women’s matches in AEW. It’s a shame to see Soho be underused like she has been, so hopefully, she will get a big push soon. Jay’s character was getting stale, so hopefully, she’ll grow into this gimmick more and more.
Result: Anna Jay def. Ruby Soho
