AEW Rampage Preview (12/9/22): Former World Champion in Action

AEW Rampage is set to feature some intriguing matches, including two title matches plus a dream match.

Winter is Coming is quickly approaching, which is adding more interest to their weekly shows. Winter is Coming is supposed to be like a pay-per-view show that AEW airs for free. The organization does a good amount of these throughout the year, and it’s not a terrible idea. Rampage has been seriously lacking, but AEW is slowly starting to build the show back to what it once was.

Let’s take a look at what to expect heading into AEW Rampage.

We Hear from Athena

We will be hearing from Athena ahead of her ROH Women’s World Championship match at ROH Final Battle.

Athena has turned a new leaf and with that came a new attitude. Athena has shown a new ruthless and highly aggressive side of her. She has viscously beaten anyone who stepped up to her, even AEW referee, Aubrey Edwards.

Athena will likely have some words for the ROH Women’s World Champion, Mercedes Martinez, ahead of their match at Final Battle.

Jon Moxley vs. Konosuke Takeshita

Jon Moxley went on AEW Dynamite and said that he was tired of all of this talking going on. He just wants to fight, because this is professional wrestling after all. So, Moxley laid down an open challenge to anyone who wants to find him. Newly signed Japanese sensation, Konosuke Takeshita, answered the call.

Takeshita is a young sensation that has been recently signed to AEW. He has wrestled for DDT in Japan and has hit the indie circuit in the United States. There is no denying he is one of the best young talents in the business today.

It is going to be interesting to see how he stacks up against one of the top stars in all of professional wrestling on AEW Rampage.

Regina Di WAVE Championship Match

The Bunny vs. Hikaru Shida (c)

Hikaru Shida is putting her Regina Di WAVE Championship on the line against the Bunny. The Regina Di WAVE Championship is the main event title for Pro Wrestling WAVE in Japan. Shida is a two-time Regina Di WAVe Champion and is looking to retain her title, but also get an opportunity at the AEW women’s World Championship.

On AEW Dynamite, Jamie Hayter stated that the winner of this match would get a title match against her for the AEW Women’s World Championship. So, there is a lot on the line in this match on AEW Rampage.

All-Atlantic Championship Match

??? vs. Orange Cassidy (c)

Orange Cassidy competed in the Dynamite Diamond Battle Royale on this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, but he was unsuccessful, mostly due to Kip Sabian.

Sabian targeted Cassidy and the two fought outside the ring before they entered the match. Sabian went on to eliminate Cassidy from the battle royale as well.

Later in the night, Sabian and Cassidy were backstage with Tony Schiavone and Cassidy gave Sabian a shot at the All-Atlantic Championship. But Sabian claimed he was hurt, so Cassidy told him to find an opponent for him.

As a result, Cassidy will be defending his title against a mystery opponent on AEW Rampage.
