AEW Full Gear 2022: Staff Predictions And Match Card Preview

AEW Full Gear has a stacked match card. The pay-per-view features some of the company’s biggest stars and puts them on a big stage. With multiple titles on the line, anything can happen. Plus this pay-per-view will change the landscape of the future of AEW. Also, this is the first pay-per-view since the drama that unfolded at All Out. So it is important for AEW to put on a good show and help improve the company through the results. So let’s preview every match on the card and give you my and fellow staff member, Dillon O’Brien, predictions for AEW Full Gear.

Sting & Darby Allin vs Jay Lethal & Jeff Jarrett

Preview

Jay Lethal and Darby Allin have been feuding for a while now. The two simply can’t be in the same arena without fighting each other. In fact, Darby Allin and Jay Lethal have met twice in singles competitions, with each man holding one victory over the other. In Jay Lethal’s most recent win, he had help from Jeff Jarrett. Heading into this match, Lethal claimed he knew someone who knew Allin extremely well, that being Jeff Jarrett. Following this attack, Allin called upon his mentor, Sting, to help him take on Lethal and Jarrett. Sting and Jarrett have crossed paths countless times in WCW and TNA over the years. So the bitter rivals will meet once again at AEW Full Gear.

Predictions

As uninterested in this match as I am, I would be lying if I said I wasn’t excited for Sting to no-sell Jarrett’s guitar shot to the head. But will that moment make this match worth it? I’m not sure. Sting has impressed in every match that he’s competed in thus far. This is a rivalry that I think not a lot of fans are that invested in. However, we are due for a Sting heel turn and I think it happens at Full Gear. So that’s why I’m taking Jay Lethal and Jeff Jarrett to win with Sting turning on Darby Allin.

Staff Predictions:

Mark: Jay Lethal & Jeff Jarrett def. Sting & Darby Allin

Dillon: Jay Lethal & Jeff Jarrett def. Sting & Darby Allin

Britt Baker vs Saraya

Preview

Since arriving in AEW, Saraya has been butting heads with a few women, one being Britt Baker. Britt Baker has been the face of the women’s division in AEW since the start. After Saraya debuted, it was clear Baker felt threatened. Thus the constant back and forth between her and Saraya. Saraya hasn’t wrestled a match in nearly five years. But she has been very successful in her career. Saraya makes her highly-anticipated return to the professional wrestling ring at AEW Full Gear.

Prediction

As much as I hate going against Britt Baker, there is zero chance Saraya is losing this match. I’m hoping for just a good clean victory, which is something that seems rare these days in wrestling. Also, it is going to be interesting to see Saraya back in the ring after not competing for a long time. Whatever happens, this match should be a blast and I have high expectations for it.

Staff Predictions:

Mark: Saraya def. Britt Baker

Dillon: Britt Baker def. Saraya

*Steel Cage Match*

Jungle Boy vs Luchasaurus

Preview

Since Christian Cage turned on Jungle Boy, Jungle Boy hasn’t been able to move on. This is a classic grudge match between two former best friends. Luchasaurus and Christian Cage have been making Jungle Boy’s life hell. Neither man can seem to move on from this feud, so it’s likely that the rivalry will come to an end after this match at AEW Full Gear.

Prediction

It’s hard to believe that this feud is still going on. It feels like they’re trying to keep it going until Christian Cage will return from injury, which won’t be for a while. I think Jungle Boy needs the win and hopefully will put this feud to bed. That is until Christian Cage is healthy again. Jungle Boy is one of the best young wrestlers in AEW, so he should be doing different things rather than feuding with the same person for months.

Staff Predictions:

Mark: Jungle Boy def. Luchasaurus

Dillon: Jungly Boy def. Luchasaurus

*AEW Trios Championship Match*

The Elite vs Death Triangle (c)

Preview

Death Triangle, PAC, Rey Fenix, and Penta, have been dominant since becoming the AEW Trios Champions a few months ago. Despite the fact that they have their differences in how to win matches, they are still operating well. They’ve defended the titles a few times while each member was going after a title of their own. Nevertheless, they have heard the rumors and seen the videos about the Elite returning and challenged them on Dynamite. In their challenge, a graphic popped up on the jumbotron and the match is official for AEW Full Gear.

Prediction

As much as I love Death Triangle, I can’t see the Elite not winning back the trios titles after they were forced to give them up. If AEW has done anything good recently, it has been putting on incredible trios matches. So I expect this one to be no different and I’m really excited about it. Also, I wouldn’t be surprised if PAC turns on the Lucha Bros following their loss.

Staff Predictions:

Mark: The Elite def. Death Triangle

Dillon: The Elite def. Death Triangle

*TNT Championship Match*

Samoa Joe vs Powerhouse Hobbs vs Wardlow (c)

Preview

Wardlow has beaten any and all that dared to step up to him in title reign. But recently, he has faced a foe who is just as big and just as mean as him. Powerhouse Hobbs has been kicking Wardlow’s ass for a few weeks and now he finally gets an opportunity to win the TNT Championship at Full Gear. Also, Samoa Joe recently turned on Wardlow which earned him a spot in this match. Three of the biggest men in AEW are set to do battle for the TNT Championship.

Prediction

This match is going to be incredible. I’ve been a huge fan of Samoa Joe for a while, so it’s nice to see AEW is finally starting to use him. However, I don’t think he is going to win the TNT Championship. I’m picking Powerhouse Hobbs to win the gold. Wardlow has done a lot for the TNT Championship, but I think he is going to lose and move on to the AEW World Championship.

Staff Predictions:

Mark: Powerhouse Hobbs def. Samoa Joe and Wardlow

Dillon: Wardlow def. Samoa Joe and Powerhouse Hobbs

*TBS Championship Match*

Nyla Rose vs Jade Cargill (c)

Preview

Jade Cargill has been incredibly dominant since arriving in AEW. In fact, this might be the most dominant run for a professional wrestler in history. She is currently undefeated and has beaten every opponent with ease. But she seemingly has found an annoyance in Nyla Rose. Rose stole the TBS Championship and is claiming to be the champion. This isn’t sitting well with Jade Cargill and she has been clearly frustrated with the whole thing. She has tried to get her title back but has been unsuccessful. Now, Cargill gets an opportunity to beat Nyla Rose once and for all. Cargill has yet to face Rose in a singles match, however, she has beaten her in a triple-threat match last year. Will Jade Cargill’s dominance continue at AEW Full Gear?

Prediction

This may be bold, but I’m taking Nyla Rose in this match. If you ask me, Athena should have been the one to dethrone Cargill at All Out. But that clearly didn’t happen and now AEW has a problem on its hands. That being, who is going to beat Cargill? When you build someone up as this dominant, you can’t have just anyone beat her. They are legitimately out of people for Cargill to beat and she has yet to beat Rose in singles competition, so that’s why I think Cargill’s run comes to an end at Full Gear.

Staff Predictions:

Mark: Nyla Rose def. Jade Cargill

Dillon: Jade Cargill def. Nyla Rose

*AEW Tag-Team Championship Match*

Swerve in our Glory vs The Acclaimed (c)

Preview

Swerve in our Glory have a shot at redemption. They lost their AEW Tag Team Championships to the Acclaimed at AEW Dynamite Grand Slam a couple of months ago. Since then, Swerve hasn’t been in the right state of mind. He has had an attitude change and has become very unpredictable. He even went as far as to kidnap “Daddy Ass” Bill Gunn and broke his fingers so he couldn’t scissor on his birthday. Also, Swerve now holds a singles victory over Bill Gunn. Which is important for the momentum of Swerve in our Glory. Who will walk out of AEW Full Gear with the tag titles?

Prediction

There is no chance that the Acclaimed are losing the tag titles. They are one of the most over teams in all of professional wrestling. Plus, they had an interesting face-off with FTR following a match a few weeks ago. So I think the plan is to do FTR versus the Acclaimed at some point. Also, I think we will finally get Swerve Strickland turning on Keith Lee, thus setting up an awesome feud.

Staff Predictions:

Mark: The Acclaimed def. Swerve in our Glory

Dillon: The Acclaimed def. Swerve in our Glory

*ROH World Championship Match*

Bryan Danielson vs Claudio Castagnoli vs Sammy Guevara vs Chris Jericho (c)

Preview

Since becoming ROH World Champion, Chris Jericho has vowed to destroy ROH and everything it stands for. Thus far, he has been successful in defeating former champions and even attacking Jerry Lynn and Bobby Cruise. Jericho continues to mock the legacy of ROH, but did he get in too far over his head with this challenge? After the Blackpool Combat Club demanded a match with him, he agreed to defend his title in a fatal four-way. So there are two members of the Blackpool Combat Club and two members of the Jericho Appreciation Society, which makes this match extremely interesting. With a world title on the line, will we see teams separate or will they stand together to win some gold for their team at AEW Full Gear?

Prediction

As much as I think Bryan Danielson deserves to hold a world title, I don’t think it is going to happen now. I love this version of Chris Jericho and I want to see a lot more of it. However, I do think Bryan Danielson will be the next ROH World Champion, I just think it’ll happen down the line. Regardless of the outcome, I am extremely excited about this match.

Staff Predictions:

Mark: Chris Jericho def. Bryan Danielson, Claudio Castagnoli, and Sammy Guevara

Dillon: Chris Jericho def. Bryan Danielson, Claudio Castagnoli, and Sammy Guevara

*AEW Interim Women’s World Championship Match*

Jamie Hayter vs Toni Storm (c)

Preview

Toni Storm has been a fighting champion in every way. She has taken on whoever wanted a shot and has competed frequently on television. This time, she faces a familiar opponent. While Jamie Hayter and Toni Storm have only wrestled once in singles competition, they are best friends. So they know each other very well. Which makes this match interesting. Hayter has yet to hold any gold in AEW but is an extremely talented wrestler. So this is going to be an important test for Toni Storm at AEW Full Gear.

Prediction

This may be another bold take, but I think Jamie Hayter walks out with the title. Toni Storm has had an amazing run as world champion, but Jamie Hayter needs some gold. Fans are finally starting to realize how damn good she is and everyone seemingly agrees that she needs to hold a title. I’m not going to be mad if Storm wins, but I think Hayter more than deserves to hold a title in AEW.

Staff Predictions:

Mark: Jamie Hayter def. Toni Storm

Dillon: Toni Storm def. Jamie Hayter

*AEW World Championship Match*

MJF vs Jon Moxley (c)

Preview

Things are heating up for this match. The three-time AEW World Champion, Jon Moxley, is looking to defend his title against one of the top stars in all of professional wrestling. MJF has been at the top of AEW since the company started. While he hasn’t held any gold, he has stayed at the top of the company. MJF has seemingly turned over a new leaf. He said he wasn’t going to cheat in any way against Moxley because he wants to beat him without any questions. So the test will be if MJF is going to cheat or not at AEW Full Gear.

Prediction

As much as I love Jon Moxley, MJF needs to be the world champion. He should have won the title a long time ago honestly. But his time is now and he is going to be the face of AEW for a while. Also, I don’t buy him being a face. Basically, it is going to be if he cheats to win or not and I think he will. He has teased fans before with him turning face and has always reverted back to his old ways. So why would this time be any different? Also, I wouldn’t be surprised if William Regal turned on Moxley and the Blackpool Combat Club. I don’t think it’s very likely, but it is a dark horse to happen. Regardless of how MJF wins, he just simply needs to win the title.

Staff Predictions:

Mark: MJF def. Jon Moxley

Dillon: MJF def. Jon Moxley
