Channel 5 Detroit News is LIVE! Our lead story is Adrian Peterson has signed with the Lions! The coaching staff in Detroit has now said that Peterson will have a significant role in the offense. Let’s check in with some local fans who picked D’Andre Swift and Kerryon Johnson in their fantasy draft.
Back to you in the studio!
Okay, sorry, not sorry for the long intro. The fact of the matter is, pretty much everyone who has Swift or Johnson in fantasy threw their phones when the Lions signed Peterson. Today, it got worse. Detroit didn’t sign AP as just a depth piece. Peterson learned that he is going to have a large role in the offense.
“They’re asking me to do a lot,” Peterson said, via Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. “I don’t think we have really locked in exactly, but what the obvious thing is, is what I’ve done for 14 years is run the ball well, catch the ball when I have the opportunity, pick up blocks.”
Peterson rejoins offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell who coached him in Minnesota. Peterson acknowledged the offense has evolved since he last spent time with Bevell. The changes mostly came from letting Matthew Stafford air the ball out deep a year ago.
For fantasy, the Lions are trying their best to turn their running back room into the Patriots. Peterson is going to be a thorn in the side all year and will likely steal touchdowns at the worst time. Not to mention, it was already a team likely to be trailing a lot in a pass-happy offense. Good luck, fantasy owners!
