Adam Wainwright Joins Fox Sports As Game Analyst

After getting a taste of the broadcast booth multiple times over the last few postseasons, former St. Louis Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright will be joining Fox Sports full-time as a game analyst, the company announced Thursday.

“For more than a decade, Adam has been one of baseball’s biggest and most successful stars both on and off the field,” Brad Zager, FOX Sports’ president of production and operations/executive producer, said Thursday via release. “His connection not only to fans in St. Louis but really across the entire sport is what makes him a perfect fit at FOX Sports. As he transitions to the next phase of his career, we are looking forward to him entertaining and educating viewers from the booth all season long.”

Wainwright, 42, retired after 18 MLB seasons with the Cardinals after the 2023 season. The right-hander was a very accomplished pitcher throughout his career. Across 478 appearances (411 starts), he pitched to a 3.53 ERA and a near-identical 3.54 FIP, striking out 2,202 batters with a career strikeout rate of 19.8 percent.

He was a three-time All-Star, two-time Gold Glover, a one-time Silver Slugger and a 2006 World Series champion. He finished in the top-3 in the NL CY voting four times and one additional time in the top-10.

Wainwright entered the booth for the 2023 postseason after doing it in 2020 and 2021 alongside Adam Amin and former MLB catcher A.J. Pierzynski. He’s a smart, genuine individual with a unique point of view, having nearly pitched at the MLB level for two decades. Everyone has their own niche, but these types of live breakdowns are the types of in-depth analysis sports fans should desire and crave–especially in MLB.

“I’m excited to join the FOX Sports family,” Wainwright said. “I love the game of baseball, and I really enjoy talking about the chess match that goes on between the pitcher and the hitter. Hopefully, my experience on the field will allow me the opportunity to share the game I love in a unique and deep way, bringing viewers closer to the game.”

He is expected to be a regular voice calling regular season and postseason games–beginning in 2024–including the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets in London on Saturday, June 8, inside London Stadium.

Including Amin and Pierzynski, he will join a team of MLB on Fox broadcasters list that includes Joe Davis, Joe Buck, Kevin Burkhardt, Kenny Albert, Jason Benetti, John Smoltz, Tom Verducci and Dontrelle Willis, among others.
