Tennessee Titans 2019 NFL Training Camp Preview

The Tennessee Titans have already been hit with a curse. Their season is essentially over before it even begins. I just need that coward to pay up his bet. Will it happen? Probably, not. That’s why he is a mouse. In reality, I probably didn’t need to curse them anyway. If Marcus Mariota is the quarterback, they are screwed anyway. Let’s dive into one of the more irrelevant teams in the NFL. What do the Tennessee Titans have up their sleeves in 2019?

3 Position Battles To Watch:

Quarterback: Marcus Mariota, Ryan Tannehill

Mike Vrabel declared this battle dead, but I’m not willing to do that. I don’t care how much they want to give the reigns to Marcus Mariota. The entire world knows the truth. The guy sucks. I want to see a full–fledged fight to the death with Ryan Tannehill. Give the people what we deserve. They won’t because they are petrified of the truth. Better start realizing it now rather than later. It’s a contract year for Mariota.

Pass Rusher: D’Andre Walker, Cameron Wake, Kamalei Correa, Harold Landry

The Titans have some interesting pass rushers on the roster. Cameron Wake is an offseason addition but has played since the dinosaurs roamed the earth. How much does he really have left? Kamalei Correa is the typical BYU bum that has no talent. No idea how he got drafted or is still in the league. Harold Landry notched 4.5 sacks as a rookie but still needs to improve in 2019. D’Andre Walker is a rookie from Georgia I‘m high on. More of a situational pass rusher but an important piece. We all know how limited this offense is so getting after the opposing quarterback is a priority for the Titans.

Strong Safety: Kenny Vaccaro, Amani Hooker

Classic vet vs. rookie battle. Kenny Vaccaro actually didn’t do a terrible job with the Titans in 2018 after it looked like his days in the NFL were numbered. Vaccaro is much more of a pure box safety and even recorded 2 sacks a year ago. Amani Hooker should bring more coverage skills to the table. The question is whether he is ready to supplant Vaccaro right away? Hooker is a 4th round pick from the University of Iowa who was thought of as more of a 2nd or 3rd round prospect prior to the draft.

Ready To Breakout: Jayon Brown

I love Jayon Brown. Coverage ability is off the charts. The range and speed he has is so important for this defense. Brown took a big step forward this past year recording 97 tackles, 6 sacks, and 1 interception. This guy is oozing with potential. I think heading into his 3rd NFL season, Brown takes a leap towards becoming one of the best off–ball linebackers in the league. He’s that good.

Rookie To Watch: AJ Brown

Does anyone feel confident putting a prediction out for AJ Brown? He could be Laquon Treadwell 2.0. He could also be a hell of a lot better. Like Treadwell, the speed is a question mark. Then he ran a 4.49 at the combine quieting those concerns. Brown has good hands and wins at the catch point rather than elite route–running ability. The sad part is that Brown is stuck with Marcus Mariota so it’s going to be impossible to get a true projection. SAD.

Fantasy Sleeper: Derrick Henry

Okay, this is a cop–out. What do you want me to do? Pick a receiver that plays with a bad quarterback? That’s a fantasy suicide mission waiting to happen. Just ask anyone that had Corey Davis last year. Henry is the only guy you want. That’s all I have. Henry is going to get his touches. There… how’s that?
