The Indianapolis Colts believe they have the best quarterback room in the NFL. Andrew Luck is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. Indy believes they have two guys worthy of that title. Frank Reich went so far as to say that he thinks Jacoby Brissett is a top 20 quarterback in the league. That’s some serious praise right there.
“It’s impossible for me to have a higher opinion of Jacoby than I do,” Reich said, via Kevin Bowen of 1070 The Fan. “I said it last year, I think he’s a top 20 quarterback. I still say that. After watching him for a year, this guy’s really good. I tell Chris all the time, ‘Please don’t let him go. I don’t care what anybody offers him. Don’t let him go.’ I love Jacoby. The problem is now I’ve gotten to know Jacoby and, at some point, I hope that it works out for Jacoby. But not now.”
We got to see what Brissett was capable of in 2017. Brissett went 4-11 as a starter with 13 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. The former NC State quarterback also only completed 58 percent of his throws in 2017 too. To be fair, Frank Reich wasn’t the coach yet either. Brissett, 26, continues to get groomed under this system so he should still be improving.
The Colts really should consider trading Brissett if they got the right offer. This is the final year of control Indy has on Brissett before he hits the open market. This is also an asset they got for free in what was one of the worst Patriots trades ever. How they gave away Brissett for Phillip Dorsett still never makes any sense.
Is Brissett a top 20 quarterback. Not the guy that we have seen thus far, that’s for sure. Brissett has good size, arm strength and mobility. His accuracy still is a thing that needs work. Worst case scenario, the Colts have a capable back up that can win a few games if Andrew Luck were to go down again.
