Last Dance Producers Teaming with HBO for Barry Bonds Documentary

It’s happening. One of the most controversial/polarizing goats of his respective sport, Barry Bonds, is finally getting a documentary many of us have been waiting for, which will aim to cover the complex and controversial career of his 22-year MLB career.

But making it even better is the fact that it will be produced by Connor Schell and Libby Geist, who worked on the popular “The Last Dance” and “O.J.: Made in America” documentaries. These two clearly know how to put together a compelling documentary. Paired with HBO, it’s easy to see why people are excited about this.

Whether or not you love him or you hate him, this documentary should be an interesting one. Bonds at one point was a surefire lock for the Baseball Hall of Fame at the pace he was going out. He had that rare but elite combo of power and speed, being the only player in MLB history with 500 home runs and 500 stolen bases.

However, in the early 2000s, he, along with basically all of baseball, was outed for using steroids, tarnishing his entire reputation in the process. As a result, Bonds wasn’t elected to the HOF, with his last chance having come back in 2022.

This topic always stirs up quite a debate among baseball fans. Many consider Barry Bonds, the Home Run King, to be the outright greatest baseball player of all time. Other people disqualify him for that honor on account of the cheating — it’s a debate that is never ending with people on both sides unwilling to change their views.

I personally am really excited to see this documentary. Maybe we can give some insight into why Bonds decided to take steroids. I mean, he was already on a Hall of Fame path and had no real need to take steroids. So some explanation on why he decided to could maybe humanize him a little bit.

The documentary in question still does not have a release date or official name. But it’s clear that they are bringing in the big guns for this and I, for one, can’t wait. I’m not the biggest fan of Bonds, or the person he is, but would be lying If I said I wasn’t going to watch this.

We can all hopefully learn more regarding the career of one of the best players this sport has seen. There surely will still be haters, there always are, but even they won’t be able to ruin this. Let’s just hope this documentary is even as close to as good as The Last Dance. If so then I think we can expect some great things.
