Victor Wembanyama is overrated

Buckle up ladies and gentlemen because this take is spicy. In today’s era, social media is becoming a sole reason why prospects get so much hype. With that being said, Victor Wembanyama is becoming overrated, and here’s why.

Let’s get this straight before I dive deeper. Wembanyama is a good player right now, and he could be in the future, but he is becoming overrated. Like I said before, this era is the time of social media and that comes with hyping up players too much. Look at New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson. Social Media deemed Williamson as the next LeBron James just after one year at Duke University.

The problem with Williamson is that he can’t find the court. He has been plagued with the injury bug, and in the NBA, availability is one of the biggest factors in a player. The real question is can a player overcome load management and stay healthy? Here, Zion can’t, making him become a little overrated.

Now, we’re in the same spot with Wembanyama. Only four years after Zion, we’re apparently getting a bigger and better player, and even saying he is better than James? That is nonsense.

Wembanyama struggled from the field last season. He shot only 46.5 percent last season as a 7-foot-5 big man. Isn’t that concerning knowing he has harder competition in the NBA, not to mention the size difference in the NBA compared to his French league? Wembanyama also had a 51.6 effective field goal percentage. He will need to take smarter shots, because throwing up random shots in the NBA is a no-go my friend.

I know Wembanyama will eventually gain more muscle, like how Giannis Antetokounmpo did later in the league, but he will get bullied by bigger guys like Joel Embiid, Giannis, LeBron, Nikola Jokic, and more.

Another comment that has to be made is that the overall difference between Wembanyama and Scoot Henderson isn’t as large as people think. Henderson would undoubtedly be the No. 1 overall pick in any other over-hyped year if Wembanyama wasn’t in his draft. But that debate is for another article.

Wembanyama isn’t a perfect player, and he never will be. No NBA player can do it all, everyone has flaws. So with that being said, Wembanyama is becoming overrated the more and more we talk about him. He hasn’t even played an NBA game, let him play a full year.

Do you think Wembanyama is overrated? If so, let us know in the comments.
