Timmy Jernigan Took Massive Pay Cut To Return To Eagles

Howie Roseman is one of the best general managers in any sport. The magic that he pulls out of thin air makes him among the best. A perfect example of this is Timmy Jernigan. Philadelphia declined a team option on Jernigan that was scheduled to pay Timmy, $11 million in 2019 and $12 million in both 2020 and 2021 under his previous deal, with cap figures of $13 million in 2019 and $14 million in 2020 and 2021.

Losing Jernigan would have been a blow for the Eagles. Fletcher Cox can’t do it by himself. Philadelphia signed Malik Jackson in the offseason but even he isn’t nearly as talented as Jernigan. To keep Jernigan on a one-year prove it deal is a home run. Jernigan, 26, was hurt for most of the 2018 season but is a very good player. Having a full year to recover, expect Jernigan to return to form. The former 2nd round pick out of Florida State recorded the 16th best pass rush productivity rate for defensive tackles in 2017. With Jernigan back in the fold, it’s safe to say the Eagles have the best defensive front in the NFL.
