Just minutes after Odell Beckham was traded away to the Cleveland Browns, we have another trade to report in the NFL. Chiefs pass rusher, Dee Ford has been traded to the San Francisco 49ers. The Chiefs will acquire a 2020 2nd round pick from San Fran. The crazy part of this deal is Ford was hit with the franchise tag earlier this offseason.

Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated was the first to report the news:

Where the hell is pass rush coming from with the Chiefs in 2019? I need to know. This defense already sucks ass. Now they have released Justin Houston. Next, Dee Ford gets traded. This defense just down right sucks. Ford, 27, had a career year for the Chiefs in 2019 notching 13 sacks. He also registered the most pressures by a pass rusher in the league.

I don’t get what the Chiefs are doing. This decision has to stem from the offsides call in the playoff game. There’s no other explanation. Maybe they felt like that was just a back breaking play that you can’t come back from. Other than that, I have nothing.

This trade is expected to go through as long as the 49ers work out a long term deal. That shouldn’t be a hassle for the 49ers who have plenty of cap space.

This has an interesting wrinkle for the 49ers. They hold the 2nd pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. If Nick Bosa is on the board, do they pair him with Dee Ford or do they now move down knowing that they have a monster pass rusher on the roster already? It’s a fascinating decision. In a draft that is this deep, it wouldn’t be the worst thing to move down but Bosa is also a can’t miss type of guy.

UPDATE: FORD cashes in on an $87.5 million contract over 5 years. The deal is done.
