Pelicans Blame Lakers For Leaking Anthony Davis Trade Details

Anthony Davis may want to play for the Lakers but those odds are growing increasingly unlikely as the days pass. The bad blood growing between New Orleans and the LA Lakers keeps mounting. Not too long ago, the Lakers accused the Pelicans of sabotaging the Lakers young players. Now it’s the Pelicans turn to blame the Lakers for their wrongdoing.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Pelicans are blaming the Lakers for leaking trade proposals:

“Throughout the two-week saga stemming from Davis’ trade request, the Pelicans became frustrated about how public the Lakers-initiated discussions had become.”

“We get off the phone with (the Lakers), and a minute later, offers are out there,” one Pelicans source with direct knowledge of discussions told The Athletic.”

Whether it came from the Lakers or Klutch Sports, someone was leaking information. There’s no question about it. The fact that the Lakers never quieted the rumors only confirms that. Magic Johnson told the young guys to toughen up. That it’s a business. Then LeBron James only stated the most obvious fact that he wants to play with Davis.

Either way, I don’t see how the Pelicans continue negotiations with the Lakers moving forward. If it were a different ownership group, then maybe. BUT… Gayle Benson also owns the Saints. It’s a football front office. Football teams are a hell of a lot more spiteful than NBA teams that make out with each other on a regular basis.

The Lakers and Pelicans are a mess. We have Alvin Gentry drinking beers to calm the nervous. LeBron James’ season is over and it’s the beginning of March. The Lakers stink. If the Lakers don’t get Davis, then what’s plan B? I don’t think they have one.
