It seems like the Jazz are sort of back, right? Donovan Mitchell was a steal. Even Quin Snyder has proven to be a really good coach. Now the Utah Jazz are ready to bring back a big piece to their team. Big man Derrick Favors has been re-signed to a large contract to return to Salt Lake City. The two parties have agreed to a deal worth $36 million over two years. The final year of the deal is non-guaranteed which is why the annual salary is so large.

Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports was the first to report the news:

Tony Jones of the Salt Lake Tribune reported the terms.

Favors, 26, definitely gets a big raise here. I’m not sure he’s worth $18 million but the Jazz really didn’t have a ton of other options. With teams lacking cap space, I’m not sure Favors could have gotten close to this number on the open market. Favors and Gobert are sort of locked in the frontcourt for Utah with Jae Crowder, and Jonas Jerebko being the other options.

The West is loaded. Will Utah be a five seed next year that they were this year? If so, Favors needs to keep improving. He shot a career-high .596 percent a year ago to go along with 12.3 points per game and 1.1 blocks per game. He still isn’t a good three-point shooter hitting .222 percent of his attempts from downtown. The West keeps getting better and better.
