Luka Doncic is the prized European prospect in the 2018 NBA Draft. The good news is Doncic is supposed to be the real deal and put up numbers overseas that other European draft picks never sniffed. The bad news is we may have to wait to see him for another season. Doncic is currently playing for Real Madrid over in Spain and hasn’t made up his mind about jumping to the NBA right after he’s drafted.
Doncic, via Alex Madrid of Eurohoops.net:
“Ι’m not sure if these are my last two games [in EuroLeague]. We have yet to make this decision. Perhaps after the season,” Doncic said.”
Then again, there could be way more to this story than what’s being released at the moment. We are just finding out that the Suns are 100 percent locked in on DeAndre Ayton. Things could change but it appears more than likely that the Suns will keep the University of Arizona center in the state. If Doncic is the pick at number two with the Kings, maybe he would just prefer to play with another franchise. Could this be his way of trying to convince the Kings not to pick him?
The NBA Draft Lottery Is Rigged And Everyone Knows It
It’s hard to blame him if that is the case because no franchise has been more of a perennial loser than the Kings. With no bright future in sight, the Kings will continue to stink even if Doncic is the real deal. The overseas prospect actually has more leverage than you might think and can really start to cash in on some lucrative deals in Europe. Obviously, starting his NBA service clock would be ideal but finding a way to play for a different organization may be more beneficial for his legacy and pocketbook years down the road.
