Jaxon Smith-Njigba Fantasy Draft Profile 2023: Dynasty Leagues

The Seattle Seahawks have selected Jaxon Smith-Njigba with the No. 20 pick in the 2023 NFL draft. Smith-Njigba had an up-and-down career for the Ohio State Buckeyes as injuries and room in the depth chart forced him to take steps back.

Outside of those two negatives, Smith-Njigba had a standout season in his sophomore year for the Buckeyes. In 13 games in 2021, he was incredible. With almost 100 receptions in the year (95), 1606 receiving yards and nine touchdowns, Smith Njigba cemented himself as a Buckeye great.

Smith-Njigba’s stats are not the only reason NFL general managers rate him as one of the top wideouts in his class. With that being said, what is Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s fantasy outlook look like for 2023?

Dynasty League Fantasy Outlook

To start off Smith-Njigba’s dynasty outlook, we have to look at the surrounding weapons.

Currently, the Seahawks have a loaded offensive core with every skill position filled. D.K. Metcalf, Tyler Lockett and Noah Fant will all take away targets from the rookie in the first few years of progression.

Lockett, who has been the Seahawks’ best receiver for the past few years, is currently 30-years-old. His contract expires in 2026 when he will be 34-years-old. With Lockett aging in a highly powerful offense, Smith-Njigba will be a player to look for in the future. He won’t make a big instant impact based on the amount of talent in the Seahawks pass catchers, but will be a reliable WR2 in a few years.

Moving away from Smith-Njigba’s competition, who will he be catching passes from? For the first three years of his career, Njigba will be catching passes from Geno Smith, who is almost 33-years-old, but is coming off a career year with the Seahawks. He threw for 30 touchdowns and only 11 interceptions while passing for 4,282 yards and completing 69.8 percent of his passes. With the addition of Smith-Njigba, Smith will look to break new career highs in the first year of his new three-year extension.

After Smith-Njigba was the first receiver off the board, his position won’t be ideal out of the gate. As he molds into professional football, his game and situation will only get better. Smith-Njigba’s value will be lower than other rookies out of the gate, but he will become a consistent and valuable WR2 in his time in Seattle.
