Jalen Hurts on record contract: ‘Money is nice, championships are better’

After signing a record-setting five-year $255 million extension, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts makes it clear what his priorities are. The longtime humble quarterback doesn’t seem too concerned about his big day. Even after a record $51 million average annual salary for the five-year deal, which will grant him $110 million fully guaranteed, Hurts is looking past his financials for an even bigger goal.

“Money is nice. Championships are better,” he told reporters Monday.

Hurts received his big payday after a breakout season last year. He threw for 3,701 yards, 22 touchdowns and only six interceptions, running for an additional 13 scores and 760 rushing yards. In total, the Eagles quarterback accumulated around 4,500 total yards.

With his crazy stat line, he lead the Eagles to a 14-3 record and a Super Bowl appearance where he would put on a performance of a lifetime. In the big game, Hurts had four total touchdowns and racked up nearly 400 total yards, including 304 passing yards.

“Look at all the great teams and great players; it takes a village … We’ve got something special going on,” Hurts said. “We all want to do it for a long time. That was important to me to take that approach with it.”

The Eagles have been attempting to reload for another potential Super Bowl run this upcoming season. With the draft only a few days away, the Philadelphia Eagles hold two first-round picks (No. 10 and 30). Those two players will become vital pieces to the Eagles’ roster no matter the position, so stay tuned for more NFL draft coverage with Vendetta.
