UFC Vegas 71 is not the best card from a betting perspective. It is tough to find solid value; the closely lined fights are lined closely because there is no reason to bet on either fighter. A lot of the solid betting opportunities are gone after early line movement. That leaves us to search through scraps to find some solid plays. I am up for the challenge, however. Here are three of the best bets for UFC Vegas 71.
At UFC Vegas 71, Bobby Green will fight Jared Gordon. Green is a sizeable favorite at -275 while Gordon is a +210 underdog. I am looking to play Green by knockout at +320.
I like Green in this fight. This is not a fade against Gordon. Instead, he is just faced with a tough stylistic matchup against Green. Green has solid takedown defense and much better boxing than Gordon. If this fight stays standing, Green should be able to pressure Gordon with volume and land a ton of shots. Over the course of three rounds, I think that results in a finish. It helps that Gordon has been finished four times in his six losses.
The value at +320 makes this a play for me.
The UFC Vegas 71 main card features another large favorite as Iasmin Lucindo is a -350 favorite while Brogan Walker is a +275 underdog. I like Lucindo to win inside the distance at +225.
Lucindo and Walker are both very inexperienced in the UFC. Lucindo has one UFC bout to her name, which resulted in a loss to Yazmin Jauregui. Although, I thought she proved to be UFC-caliber in that bout. Meanwhile, Walker is making her UFC debut after losing the Ultimate Fighter Season 30 finale to Juliana Miller. In that fight, she was finished with ground-and-pound. That performance does not make me optimistic about her UFC future.
I like Lucindo to find a finish because she is very aggressive. On the feet, she throws haymakers that have fight-ending potential. On the ground, she throws nasty ground-and-pound and threatens submissions. If she can use those skills in this fight, she can finish Walker. I like the value available at +225 too.
It is time to play a favorite. In the first fight of UFC Vegas 71, I like Batgerel Danaa, the -140 favorite, to beat Brady Hiestand (+115).
Danaa and Hiestand are both lower-level UFC fighters. This bout is not anything special. The outlook is fairly simple as a result. If Hiestand can consistently land takedowns, he will win. If not, Danaa will land a ton of big strikes. The power striking of Danaa and the defensive flaws of Hiestand should not fare well for Hiestand.
I think Danaa will be the one to execute his game plan. He has more UFC experience, is closer to his prime and has shown good grappling in the past. I do think Hiestand has more potential, but I think he is too raw to beat a fighter like Danna at this point in his career.
