Mario Movie Shooting For a Sequel, Says Chris Pratt

Even before The Super Mario Bros. Movie has been released, talks about a sequel are already beginning to spread, with lead actor Chris Pratt commenting on the existence of a post-credit scene in the animated video game film.

The Details

Now, post-credit scenes are becoming more and more popular these days. While these scenes have been around for decades, Marvel is credited with popularizing the additional scene at the end of a movie. It seems this trend will be continuing in the Mario movie as well.

But while Pratt was happy to talk about the existence of a post-credit scene, what the scene will be about is being kept under wraps. Of course, this is to be expected. Still, the hype is definitely real for this film and no doubt this talk of a post-credit scene will amplify that.

Pratt did continue on, saying that it might not even just set up a sequel, but some spin-offs as well, with the actor expressing interest in a Luigi’s Mansion adaptation, a title that mostly focuses on the lovable side-kick to Mario. In The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Luigi is voiced by Charlie Day.

What will we actually get?

Of course, if the movie is terrible, then this post-credit scene will be mostly worthless. While it doesn’t seem likely that the Mario movie will fail under Nintendo’s ever watchful eye and Illuminations admittedly great animation work, anything can happen.

Here’s to hoping that the movie does well, that this post-credit scene is worth it, and Pratt’s comments bear fruit towards sequels and spin-offs. Otherwise, Nintendo might axe some Illumination executives.
