Jaylen Brown has been rocking his black facial mask since February, but he could be rocking it for a bit longer for a particular reason. Brown plans to wear his mask during games based on his mom’s request, per theScore.
Brown suffered a facial contusion in a game against the Philadelphia 76ers during the month of February. He suffered the injury from colliding with his teammate Jayson Tatum under the basket. Brown would catch an elbow to the face, causing the injury.
The Celtics superstar addressed the media, saying that his mom wants him to keep wearing the mask.
“I think it’s not fully healed. I think what they said, like, you got like six weeks until the cartilage starts to grow back so you’re, I guess, safe if you were to take another hit,” Brown said, according to NBC Sports Boston’s Justin Leger. “But you still got like another six weeks before I guess it fully gets back to where it is or where it’s supposed to be.”
“So I guess technically, I got like a couple more days or I don’t have to wear it anymore if I didn’t want to,” Brown said, via theScore. “But if you wanna be safe, they say, you keep wearing it. My mom wants me to wear it, so I’ll probably keep wearing it.”
Brown’s injury hasn’t slowed him down one bit. In the month of March, Brown has stepped up for Tatum’s inconsistency. During March, Brown has had the best stretch of this season. He is averaging almost 29 points per game, three assists and seven rebounds. He is also doing all of this on 52.1% from the field along with 37% shooting from deep.
Brown’s mask may be continuing to be on, but it’s not slowing him down in the slightest. The Boston Celtics will look to continue to dominate across the Eastern Conference with playoffs just around the corner.
