The Miami Marlins have unveiled their alternate uniforms for this upcoming season, which will be throwback threads celebrating the franchise’s 30th anniversary.
The team announced they plan to wear these uniforms for Friday home games, excluding Lou Gehrig Day and Roberto Clemente Day. The turquoise is an awesome look that I wish they never got away from. They had the best uniforms in the sport (yes, the best) before they changed their team name from the Florida Marlins to the Miami Marlins.
“I think, moving forward, we’re going to do a lot better at glorifying this franchise and celebrating what we’ve done over 30 years,” said former Marlin and current Special Assistant Jeff Conine. “This year is going to be a great kickoff point.”
These new look also honor the 20th anniversary of the Marlins’ 2003 World Series team. Although, their uniforms had a black element as the main color, unlike the throwbacks that were unveiled Friday.
There is just something so crisp about the turquoise look. The big “F” logo combined with the Marlin on the hat is a classic throwback. Combine the modern colors with the throwback pinstripes and you have one of the most solid uniforms in the entire league.
The classic turquoise uniforms should be their primary choice. I’ll never forgive them for the uniform/brand change that they subjected us to, starting in 2012. They changed a beautiful look into a monstrosity. Their change from the Florida Marlins to the Miami Marlins was fine, but they should have just kept the same uniforms.
Not to mention that disgusting home run statue that they had in left-center field for some odd reason. That thing was an eyesore.
The current uniforms are better than the 2012s. But they’re still not nearly as cool or as classic as their throwback uniforms that they’re bringing back this season. Once Miami wears these, I promise that many will be calling for them to be their primary uniforms again.
Will the team’s product on the field be as good as their threads this season?
