Peter Skoronski 2023 NFL Draft Profile

Peter Skoronski is, without question, the best offensive lineman in the 2023 NFL Draft. The Northwestern junior is leaving a year early for the pros after dominating the Big Ten for the past three seasons.

In his collegiate career, he started in all of his 33 games and earned All-Big Ten honors twice. As a true freshman, he stepped in the place of Rashawn Slater, who was selected in the first round of the 2021 draft. Ever since then, he has continued to impress time and time again. What makes the consensus OT1 so great? Let’s dive into it!

Strengths:

Skoronski is one of the most polished and starter-ready offensive tackles in this draft. He possesses a very athletic skill set including a very nice first kick back allowing him to keep up with faster edge rushers.

Along with this, his refined technique makes it hard for him to lose the defender, thanks to his strength. During the bench press section of the 2023 Combine, he was able to complete 30 bench presses, the fifth-most among offensive linemen who participated at the combine.

With all of this considered, his athleticism and technique paired with his strength make a storm to deal with as a defender. He can beat them to the edge, lock his hands on the rusher, and protect the quarterback. Skoronski is definitely at his best in pass protection and, in a pass-heavy league, with all of these qualities, it’s hard to pass him up.

Weaknesses:

Even with all of those great qualities, Peter Skoronski is still not perfect.

The biggest downfall about him is something that he isn’t in control of: His arm length. His arms measure in at 32 1/4″, which hurts his impressive resume as an OT. Most lineman with an arm length such as that are moved to the interior.

However, his run blocking is not up to par with his pass protection in order to do that. Most scouts have him moving to the interior once he moves on to the next level, which I believe would be a mistake. To add to that, in a zone protection scheme, Skoronski would decline, since that doesn’t play to his strengths.

Where could he be drafted?

At the moment, it’s safe to say Skoronski is a top-10 pick in the 2023 Draft. Especially with teams like Raiders (No. 7), Falcons (No. 8) and Bears (No. 9), who are all in need of help on the offensive line. Within the media, it is impossible for him to escape the top 10, with a lot of people saying he is a future Chicago Bear. Ironic to think, since his grandfather, Bob Skoronski, played for the Green Bay Packers.
