Mike Gesicki stays in AFC East as he joins division rival New England Patriots

The celebration-king Mike Gesicki is staying in the AFC East. After the Miami Dolphins fail to sign the star TE, he joins the New England Patriots. Gesicki will get a one-year deal worth up to $9 million, according to Tom Pelissero.

Gesicki has been one of the best tight ends in the NFL for the past few seasons now. Now the New England Patriots have signed the former Miami Dolphins to a one-year-deal in hopes of sparking a new life into their offense.

Last year, the Patriots struggled on offense. Mac Jones, the starting QB for the Patriots, had a down season last year. In fact, the worst one of his short career. He posted 14 passing touchdowns and 11 interceptions in only 14 games played. Jones took a leap back in 2022-23 and even had his starting spot jeopardised. But, with Gesicki, Jones and he will be able to produce more offense and balance out their attack more.

In 2022-23, Gesicki also had a down year, similar to Jones. He had the second-worst year in his five-year career. In all 17 games last season, Gesicki only put up around 400 receiving yards on 32 catches. Both the two lowest of his career. But, he added five touchdowns, which is second-highest amongst his five-year career.

Gesicki will add value to the Patriots’ much needed offensive improvement. With the hiring of Bill O’Brien as the offensive coordinator, they will use Gesicki in the offense a lot more. O’Brien worked with Mac Jones in college at Alabama, and with that spread offense, Gesicki will see more targets than his previous year. He will also join fellow TE Hunter Henry, whom the Patriots signed to a big deal before the 2021 NFL season.
