Jakobi Meyers Calls Tweet About JuJu Smith-Schuster ‘Childish’

The Patriots didn’t take long to find their Jakob Meyers replacement. After Meyers signed a free agent deal with the Raiders to join Josh McDaniels in Las Vegas, New England quickly pivoted to JuJu Smith-Schuster.

When Meyers found out about the news, he put this tweet out to express his frustration.

To Meyers’ credit, he didn’t delete the Tweet. Instead, during his introductory presser with the Raiders, Meyers called himself out. Something JuJu would NEVER do.

“Nah, not for real,” Meyers told reporters when asked if he had any animosity toward his former team. “I just like messing with people, honestly. I just like to get under people’s skin. But no, honestly I appreciate them for everything that I’ve been through there. I never really got to say — well, I did get to say goodbye, but I never really got to tell them ‘bye’ as I was leaving the building.

“(The tweet) was just me being childish, for real. I love them, but I’m also happy to be here.”

Meyers, 26, in reality probably has a right to feel some type of way. The contracts are virtually identical. Both players signed for three years at $33 million. The only difference is Meyers is committed to football. JuJu is committed to acting a fool on social media. Given the way Meyers has worked to move up the latter in New England, it’s certainly a valid argument that the Patriots should have just ponied up to keep the former NC State product.

Meyers has a new home in Vegas as Josh McDaniels tries to add as many former Patriots to the roster as possible. Most notably Jimmy Garoppolo.
