Aaron Rodgers confirms he wants to play for the Jets

The Aaron Rodgers era hasn’t even started in New York yet. Yet there has already been enough drama to make up an entire offseason. Last week before the tampering period begin, there were reports that Rodgers was going to end up a Jet. With the moves the Jets made to clear up cap space, it seemed more and more like that was going to be the case.

This led many people to believe that a trade was soon going to be worked out. Many reports say that a trade was more or less finalized.

Days went on and no news of the trade broke. This was weird because it seemed like it was more or less a done deal. In typical Aaron Rodgers fashion, a report came out saying he had a wish list of players for the Jets to sign before he would waive his no-trade clause.

The list included the likes of Allen Lazard, OBJ, Randall Cobb, and Marcedes Lewis. While Rodgers has come out and outright denied these claims, the Jets immediately going out and signing Alan Lazard right after the report emerged makes me believe there was some truth to it.

I mean we all know the personality of Aaron Rodgers. He likes to feel like he is in charge and the top dog in the organization. So I would not put it past him to pull a move like this.

But today Aaron Rodgers himself gave some insight into the rumors while on the Pat McAfee show. In which he outright stated that he wants to play for the Jets.

For those who don’t want to watch the video, the quote at the top more or less sums it up. Rodgers himself is ready for the trade, but the Packers are making sure they get the right compensation back for the two-time MVP.

It seems like the Aaron Rodgers era is over in Green Bay. While many people believe Rodgers is a robot who shows no emotion. He did take some time while on their show to reflect on the 15 years he spent in Green Bay.

“I got to be the starting quarterback of the Packers for 15 years. … So, I love you, Green Bay. Thank you. I’m as sad as some of you are, but we’ll meet again.”

Rodgers would also note that the decision to leave was a bittersweet one but noted that both sides are moving in different directions. At this point, the Aaron Rodgers to New York trade isn’t a matter of if but more a matter of when.

The Jets are clearly trying to make themselves as appealing as possible to Aaron by bringing in Nathaniel Hackett as their OC who Rodgers described as

“There’s one coach who has meant as much to me as any coach I’ve ever had.”

The Jets are a QB away from being a serious contender. And it’s safe to say that an addition of Aaron Rodgers would do just that for New York. We don’t know what the return will be but regardless, the Jets will have a roster around Aaron that will give them a serious chance to make some deep playoff runs.
