Best fit for Aaron Rodgers is Las Vegas, according to Colin Cowherd
With the retirement of Tom Brady, the longest tenured quarterback in the NFL is now Aaron Rodgers, though it may not be long before Rodgers chooses to hang up his cleats, too. The 39-year-old quarterback has hinted at the idea of retirement for the past few seasons now. If he chooses to return for his 16th season, it will not be for the Green Bay Packers.
While awaiting his decision on retirement, there has been much speculation surrounding what team would be the best fit for Rodgers, should he choose to return. On his daily sports talk show “The Herd,” Colin Cowherd expressed his belief that the best fit for Rodgers is Las Vegas. While Rodgers still needs to decide if he plans to play next season, Cowherd’s argument is very convincing.
During one of his weekly Tuesday interviews on the Pat McAfee show, Aaron Rodgers detailed how he would be taking a four-day darkness retreat soon — partly to contemplate whether or not he truly wants to come back and play next season. His predecessor, Brett Favre did have a lot of success leaving the Packers after 16 seasons. If Rodgers were to join forces with Davante Adams, Josh Jacobs, Darren Waller and Hunter Renfrow in his 16th season, it would be very exciting to see what could unfold.
Other teams likely to pursue Rodgers
The four-time MVP and Super Bowl champion had one of his worst career years in 2022. Despite this, Rodgers did play at an elite level during stretches of the season. Nevertheless, the Packers have officially decided to move forward with Jordan Love and away from Rodgers.
On paper, the best fit for Rodgers is Las Vegas because of his relationship with Adams. Still, there will likely be multiple teams sending Green Bay trade offers if Rodgers chooses not to retire.
Rodgers would be an immediate upgrade at quarterback for multiple teams, not just the Raiders. The Saints, Commanders, Panthers, Jets, Colts, and a few other teams are currently shopping for a quarterback. Other than having Adams, what the Raiders do possess is the third-highest cap space in the league. Currently sitting with over $46 million, and the seventh pick in the draft, it appears as if it’s on the Raiders to not land Rodgers at this point.
Until the NFL world gets an answer upon Rodgers’ retirement when he returns from his darkness retreat, speculation will continue. But like Colin Cowherd said regarding his speculation, “Aaron is going to a black hole for four days. Why not just make it full-time?”
