It’s officially the end of an era. It’s not just the end of an era. The Raiders are getting nothing in return. It is being reported that Derek Carr is vetoing any and all trades and is now expected to hit the free agent market. Carr’s contract became a problem in trade negotiations so the former Fresno State product will hit the free agent market instead.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network was the first to report the news:
Tom Pelissero later added that the Saints had a deal lined up for Carr but the contract played a factor.
With the Saints and Raiders having a framework of a trade done, does this mean Carr is heading to New Orleans for free instead? Feels like a major win on the surface for the Saints. At a minimum, an upgrade over what they had last year with Andy Dalton. It remains to be seen if Dennis Allen is head coach worthy but the two did spend time with the Raiders together. Allen was the Raiders’ head coach from 2012-2014. It’s been reported that Allen and Carr have a great working relationship. Carr also spent time in New Orleans recently on a recruiting trip.
It remains to be seen who the Raiders will replace Carr with. It felt like only a matter of time before Tom Brady ended up as a Raider. With Brady now retired, is Jimmy Garoppolo the next target? Will the Raiders really stick with Jarrett Stidham instead? Time will tell if the grass proves to be greener.
