Drake ordered to sit for deposition in XXXTentacion trial

Drake was ordered to sit for a deposition regarding the XXXTentacion murder trial. The order states, according to Rolling Stone, “Drake (real name Aubrey Graham) can either attend the deposition on Friday, Feb. 24 or he must appear before this court on Monday, Feb. 27, 2023.”

This all dates back to the summer of 2018 when XXXTentacion (real name Jahseh Onfroy) was murdered outside of a motorcycle store. Since then, there are now three remaining suspects, Dedrick Williams, Michael Boatwright and Trayvon Newsome, who have all claimed not guilty.

The defense attorney of Williams, Mauricio Padilla, is the one who inserted Graham as a possible alternative to the murder. This took place during the opening statements he made on Tuesday, Feb. 7, which Padilla was eventually granted Thursday, Feb. 9. He continued this claim against Drake by mentioning past feuds between the two rappers in the months prior to the murder.

These claims included the most notable Instagram post by Jahseh which read: “If anyone tries to kill me it was @champagnepapi [Drake’s Instagram handle]. I’m snitching right now.” However, Onfroy deleted that post and wrote, “Please stop entertaining that bullshit on Twitter. My accounts were previously hacked.”

The beef between the pair

At the time XXXTentacion was gaining popularity, Drake was also at, what some would call, his peak in music. Drake was coming off of a hot streak from his album Views, which contained popular tracks such as “Hotline Bling,” “One Dance,” “Too Good” with Rihanna and “Controlla.” Meanwhile, XXXTentacion was also hot from his popular single “Look at Me” which was followed by the album 17.

A claim was made by Jahseh’s friend that Drake would help with his jail situation between him and his pregnant girlfriend, however, he never made contact. Soon after, in 2017, Drake released More Life, the album that has the track “KMT,” which was deemed a copycat of XXXTentacion’s ever-famous “Look at Me.” After the connection was made, the situation between the two escalated.

This was shortly before Onfroy’s murder; therefore, many were quick to look in Drake’s direction as the culprit behind the killing. It also is not helping his case that Graham has released a plethora of songs including lines that fans deem as dissing XXXTentacion or referencing his murder. Songs such as the recent “On BS” from the collaborative album Her Loss with 21 Savage are a prime example with the lyric “If he held his tongue on that live, he’d be alive again, damn”.

Response to the order

It is unclear the decision made by Graham as there have been no comments made by him or his team. A claim is sure to be made soon in the future that could be informative of the situation at hand for the rapper. We will keep you up to date as they are released.
