Eric Gordon traded to Clippers in three-team deal

Eric Gordon has been traded to the Clippers in a three-team deal involving the Rockets and Grizzlies. Full trade details are as follows:

After seven seasons in Houston, Gordon is finally returning to Los Angeles, where he spent his first three seasons as a Clipper. Gordon continues to produce in his age-34 season, averaging 13.1 points per game on 43.9 percent shooting. He adds solid defense and veteran leadership to a team looking to make a championship run.

It’s been clear for years that Gordon, the last surviving member of Houston’s James Harden era, had overstayed his welcome on a team that’s been doing its best to rebuild. Shipping him to LA simply clears up cap space. The Rockets basically got the same player in return in Danny Green, another veteran, three-and-D, oversized shooting guard. Plus, with John Wall likely to be waived and a pick swap with the Grizzlies, Houston should be satisfied with how this trade turned out.

Danny Green played a total of 43 minutes and scored nine points for the Grizzlies before being shipped away.

Luke Kennard, on the other hand, has been shooting 44.7 percent from three-point this season and adds to an already-impressive scoring punch off the Memphis bench. Kennard averaged a league-leading 44.9 percent from three last season on six attempts per game. He saw his minutes dip in the playoffs, however, and has had to take a smaller role. Kennard is only scoring 7.4 points per game this season and should benefit from more minutes with Memphis.

With all said and done, the Clippers definitely benefitted the most from this trade. Gordon should immediately contribute to the playoff push. Three second-round picks shouldn’t hurt, either. They gave up an aging John Wall with a player-friendly contract and a rotation piece in Kennard.
