Electronic Arts’ annual Madden prediction of the Super Bowl has just been released. Via YouTube, the company has predicted that the Philadelphia Eagles will triumph over the Kansas City Chiefs 31-17.
EA has been conducting these Madden predictions since 2004 and has been surprisingly more accurate than not — only eight out of their 19 predictions have been incorrect — along with one perfect prediction: Super Bowl XLIX between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots.
The predictions the game makes shouldn’t be completely disregarded. And that really shouldn’t be surprising.
The franchise’s focus on players and stats often means that these in-game reflections of stars like Patrick Mahomes are often not too different to their real-life counterparts. From catches to passes to sacks, Madden prides itself on having a history of accuracy for everything, including teams, players, coaches and more. The series can be a pretty good predictor of football when it wants to be.
That being said, Madden has been wrong twice in a row. Perhaps the Eagles and Chiefs game will turn this around, or maybe we are seeing the start of a streak of failed predictions.
The game is to be televised on Feb. 12 on Fox beginning at 6:30 p.m. EST.
