Everton Hire Sean Dyche to be the New Manager

Everton named Sean Dyche as their new manager on Monday following the sacking of Frank Lampard. The news was made official in a statement by the club.

“The Toffees” and Dyche agreed to a two-and-a-half-year contract that will keep the former Burnley manager at the club through the 2024-25 season.

“It’s an honor to become Everton manager,” Dyche said. “My staff and I are ready and eager to help get this great club back on track.”

Dyche will have his hands full with an Everton team that is currently 19th in the English Premier League. They are fighting with six other teams in the relegation scrap.

At this moment “The Toffees” are two points from safety and have lost six of their last seven matches. This was a big part of the sacking of Lampard.

However, if anyone is used to the pressure of staying up it is Dyche. Before taking over the Everton job, Dyche had spent the last ten seasons managing Burnley. In his time there, he helped gain promotion twice while being relegated once. He also kept Burnley up by finishing 16th, 15th, and 17th in the Premier League table.

He was sacked by Burnley late last season amidst another relegation battle. Despite his sacking, Burnley still finished 18th and was relegated to the English Championship.

This is the second straight season Everton has been in a relegation battle, and it was the home matches that made a difference last year. Looking ahead, Dyche recognized the importance of having the fan’s support.

“We want to bring back a good feeling,” Dyche said. “We need the fans, we need unity and we need everyone aligned. That starts with us as staff and players.”

The first match that Dyche will manage Everton is a tough one against league leaders Arsenal on Saturday, Feb. 4. Fortunately for Dyche, it is a home match.
