Kyle Shanahan Believes Demeco Ryans Is Ready To Become A Head Coach

Kyle Shanahan doesn’t want Demeco Ryans to leave. Who would? Ryans currently is the orchestrator of the NFL’s number one overall defense. However, the 49ers’ head coach made it clear his defensive coordinator is absolutely ready for a head coaching opportunity elsewhere.

“I think it starts as a man,” Shanahan said, via 49ersWebzone.com. “He’s the ideal leader, whatever he does. He was that way when he came into Houston as a rookie linebacker. He took over that defense right away. You could tell he was in charge when he was a 21-year-old. He came in here as a quality control [coach], and within like six months, we moved him to linebacker coach. He’s just always been that guy. And then just watching him over these two years, what he took in his years learning to get there — he runs his system, and then he adjusts every week. He sees how to play an offense. He pays attention to offense and defense. I thought he was ready last year to be a head coach.”

Ryans, 38, has already interviewed for the Broncos and Texans head coaching openings. Ryans would have the opportunity to chase interviews with the Colts and Panthers whenever the 49ers season concludes. This game against Philadelphia could have massive stakes. Will a team wait to hire Ryans if San Francisco advances to the Super Bowl?

The Texans’ job might be the most intriguing based on Ryans’ playing experience. The former University of Alabama product was selected with the 33rd pick in the NFL Draft way back in 2006 by Houston.
