MRags is the newest victim as Barstool Sports continues to cut content contributors that aren’t moving the needle enough. If you don’t know who MRags is, he’s a gaming personality that Barstool hired in 2021. By the time 2023 hits, MRags is already out the door.
The gaming personality described his Barstool exit via a YouTube video:
MRags doesn’t seem to have any hard feelings about being let go by Barstool. If he wanted to get bitter about it, MRags certainly could have gone that route. A number of employees (including Smitty) often referred to him as “cum rags”. Not exactly a ringing endorsement for someone that you’re trying to build up into a beloved character. I would argue that he never was able to overcome that nickname.
However, the more important story needs to be talked about. Does Barstool care about gaming? It would appear that the answer to that question is a resounding no. Smitty is the only employee that even covers gaming stuff. Frank the Tank had a Madden series. Other than that, it’s a black cloud filled with nothing.
A company that seems to have a ton of resources given the fact that Penn has outright bought them. With that said, the company will be driven by gambling for the foreseeable future. If you’re not in the gambling sphere, you are expendable at Barstool. Just the way that it is. When it comes to gaming, they’re basically a non-factor. MRags’ video seems to suggest that’s not going to change.
