Max Duggan Has that Dawg in Him

If you’re like me then you are probably still recovering from that crazy TCU/Michigan game. I didn’t even have a dog in the fight and was still at the edge of my seat the entire team. It was a back-and-forth game that didn’t seem like it would ever end. But alas it has, and if there is one takeaway I had from this game, aside from it being one of the best college games of all time, it’s that Max Duggan is an absolute dawg and has my utmost respect.

The kid is an absolute fighter and has been for most of his life. In 2020 he was diagnosed with a heart condition known as Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome. He had to endure a 9-hour heart surgery and faced many complications post-surgery. But still missed no time during the season.

He then had to sit back and watch Sonny Dykes come in as coach and name Chandler Morris the QB1. Only for Chandler to get injured during the first game, thrusting Max Duggan back into the starting role. And it’s safe to say he’s done the most with his opportunity.

He led the Horned Frogs to a 12-1 record, with many wins coming on the back of huge comebacks and late-game heroics from Duggan himself. And put up a valiant effort in the Big 12 Champshinhip game despite coming up short against Kansas St.

Now he’s led his team to a victory over a heavily favored Michigan team and will play the winner of the Georgia/Ohio St game in the National Championship. Now Duggan had far from a perfect game. He finished 14/29 with 225 yards, 2 TDS, and 2 picks, although one was absolutely not his fault at all. He also had 57 yards on the ground to pair with 2 more TDS.

But when watching this kid play you can just see how much of a gamer he is. He’s always willing to lower his shoulder to fight for more yards and stand in the pocket to make a throw while taking a hit. And I personally just love to see that kinda grit at any level of sports. Especially in college.

Now listen I don’t know what the future hold for Max Duggan. Trey has written up in short about Duggan and I think he does a pretty good job at breaking him down. A guy with good deep-ball accuracy and can move the chains with his legs. But whoever does end up with him is gonna be getting a helluva leader and a kid whos gonna give his all every time he’s on the field. And at the end of the day, it never hurts to have someone like that on your roster.

Many people questioned if TCU should even be in the playoff. And honestly, I’m glad that Duggan and the Horned Frogs proved all those people wrong. It was an amazing game that could have gone either way, but I believe that Duggan simply just wanted it more, and I don’t care if that’s stupid. He left his all on that field and god damn do I respect that.
