Does Mark Davis Hate Derek Carr?
Derek Carr has played his last game with the Raiders and it sounds like it has everything to do with ownership? That’s right. It turns out that the decision to bench Derek Carr came from way upstairs. Raiders owner Mark Davis is sick of Carr and wants to move on ASAP.
“My first reaction [to Carr’s benching] is this has Mark Davis written all over it,” John Middlekauff posted on Twitter. “Because it doesn’t make that much sense from a Josh McDaniels standpoint unless he’s just completely done with him and wants no part of him getting injured. I’ve heard for a long time that Mark Davis isn’t the biggest fan of [Derek Carr] and felt kind of stuck with him.”
Vic Tafur of The Athletic had something similar to say in his column (subscription required no need to click).
Make no mistake about it, Carr was terrible this year. The former Fresno State product completed 60.8% which was the lowest mark of his career since debuting in 2014 as a rookie. Carr also posted a 24-14 TD to INT ratio. Those 14 interceptions lead the NFL at the moment.
Jarrett Stidham is now in line to start the final two games of the season for Las Vegas. Stidham has proven to be a terrible quarterback as the stock report notes continue to be your best friend. Stidham will make his first start for Vegas after originally being drafted by the Patriots. In two years with the Pats, Stidham completed 50% of his throws in eight total games.
The Raiders better have a plan. Meddling owners like Mark Davis usually never make the right call when it comes to this stuff. The grass isn’t always greener. Jim Irsay is finding this out the hard way.
