Mariners Acquire Teoscar Hernandez Via Trade

Jerry Dipoto is a man on a mission. After getting Seattle to the postseason for the first time in what seemed like forever, winning a postseason is next on the Mariners’ to-do list. Trading for corner outfielder Teoscar Hernandez is a hell of a start to the offseason.

Well… that’s exactly what happened. The Mariners have pulled off a trade to acquire Teoscar Hernandez from the Toronto Blue Jays.

Jeff Passan of ESPN was the first to report the news:

It has now been reported that the return will include Erik Swanson and Adam Macko. Swanson, 29, is a former Yankee farmhand coming off a breakout season with Seattle. Swanson also comes with significantly less service time allowing Toronto more years of control. Swanson notched a 1.68 ERA in 57 games for Seattle in 2022. Macko is the 8th-ranked prospect in the Mariners’ farm system according to MLB.com.

It’s hard not to love this trade for the Mariners. Teoscar is a game changer for any lineup. Hernandez, 30, put together a slash line of .283/.333/.519 batting line with 73 home runs and 71 doubles through 1337 plate appearances during the last three years in Toronto. That’s a big boy bat the Mariners needed to get to the next level. Oh, and Hernandez is a former Astros prospect adding more fuel to the fire in the AL West.

Talk about aggressive. That’s Jerry Dipoto to a T.

We need more people like Jerry Dipoto in baseball. He knows what he wants and is willing to do business in order to get it done. A rarity among the cowards running other ball clubs.
