Israel Adesanya Once Cut Weight by Busting a Nut

Weight cutting is one of the hardest parts any fighter has to go through during fight week and ahead of UFC 281, Israel Adesanya told Taylor Rooks the weirdest way he has ever cut weight.

“I just … what the f–k, f–king hell. Back in kickboxing back in the day when I was kickboxing when I was really young … I didn’t have the fight dietitian, the guy who looks after us with my meals and whatnot, I didn’t have him on deck. I was not in the UFC … ah f–k man … Okay, how do I put this … I busted a nut to make weight,” Adesanya said as both burst into laughter.

Adesanya after over a minute of contemplating whether he should say it or not explained that he once busted a nut to make weight as an amateur kickboxer.

Well then. We have really heard it all. A lot of fighters have their own unique methods of cutting weight whether it’s cutting your hair, taking laxatives, or sweating your body dry. However, “The Last Stylebender” takes the cake with his bizarre tactic to lose the last few ounces.

Adesanya will have to cut weight before the sixth defense of his UFC middleweight title at UFC 281 on Saturday. The middleweight limit is 185 pounds and Adesanya should easily make that unlike another former champion, Charles Oliveira who missed weight ahead of his title defense at UFC 274.

At UFC 281 Adesanya will face off against his old kickboxing foe Alex Pereira. Pereira and Adesanya fought twice in Glory of Heroes with Pereira winning both fights. To this day Pereira is still the only fighter to have ever knocked out Adesanya in any of his 110 fights across boxing, kickboxing, and MMA.

UFC 281 will take place at Madison Square Garden with Adesanya vs Pereira as the main event, with the UFC women’s strawweight title between champion Carla Esparza and former champion Zhang Weili as the co-main event.
