PK Subban Joining ESPN As NHL Analyst

PK Subban retired from the NHL this season but we always knew he would return to the game in some way, shape, or form. The former Canadiens, Predators, and Devils defensemen has signed a contract with ESPN to join their NHL team. A wise move by ESPN to continue to beef up their hockey coverage.

Subban is signing a three-year contract with ESPN. Subban will mostly do studio work for them while also calling a few games on occasion.

VIA ESPN:

“I’ve known for a few weeks now. It’s been tough to have known what I was going to do that and just kind of keep it close to the chest. But I’m excited now that we’re now here,” Subban said. “I had done some work last postseason and it was great. I enjoyed working with the producers and everybody.”

“I’m excited to bring that passion and that energy that I brought on the ice to something else that I’m passionate about. I hope that they’re just as excited as I am to get started,” he said. “The people that follow and know me know that I keep honest. I’m going to be myself, and hopefully that’s what they want to see. I think that’s what people are excited about.”

For those that don’t watch the NHL as closely as I do, this move shouldn’t really be considered super surprising. It was obvious that Subban was essentially given an audition last year. “P.K.’s Places” was already in the works and set to debut next year. PK also made appearances on First Take and other ESPN platforms during the playoffs a year ago. He’s really good on camera so it’s no surprise that ESPN wanted this to get done on a more consistent basis.

Best of all, when PK Subban returns to the studio, he can talk about how good the Devils are without him. The John Marino post is coming. If you know, you know.
