Roman Reigns Hits Massive Milestone in WWE
Roman Reigns has been at the top of WWE for most of his career, but over the past couple of years, he has reinvented himself. Now, Reigns is one of the most dominant WWE superstars in history.
He has the best storyline going in all of professional wrestling as he currently holds the WWE and Universal Championships and he doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. After his victory over Logan Paul at Crown Jewel, he has officially hit a massive milestone in WWE.
800 Days as Champion
Reigns has officially held the WWE Universal Championship for 800 days. This is a huge milestone and something that we might not see again for a while. A champion holding their title for this long is simply something that doesn’t happen often these days.
Even someone holding a title for a year is a rare thing in WWE. According to Wrestling Inc., Reigns now sits as the ninth longest title reign in WWE history. The next closest to him is Walter, now known as Gunther, who held the NXT UK Championship for 870 days. There is no telling when Reigns’ dominant streak will come to an end.
The next premium live event is Survivor Series WarGames where the main-event titles likely won’t be defended. That leaves the Royal Rumble to be the next opportunity for Reigns to defend the titles. But by then, he will have held the Universal Championship for 879 days, moving him past Gunther and eight all time. So, let’s take a look at how long this reign can go on.
When Will This Reign Come to an End?
If you’re going to have a reign like this come to an end, it will likely happen on the biggest stage, WrestleMania. WrestleMania takes place on April 1 and 2 of next year. If Roman is still the Universal Champion at that time, he will have been the champion for 942 days. That will put him at the seventh-longest title reign of all time. If we’re being realistic, there are some records that just won’t be broken. I think the absolute longest Reigns’ reign will go will be to surpass Pedro Morales’ reign.
Morales held the WWWF Championship for 1,027 days. If Reigns were to surpass that record, he would have to hold the Universal Championship for about two and a half months after WrestleMania next year. That would put him at the sixth-longest title reign of all time. He would be sitting behind Bruno Sammartino who had the fifth-longest title reign at 1,237 days. To put that into perspective, that’s almost three and a half years as champion. That’s a record that will never be broken again.
So most fans are in agreement that Reigns’ reign will likely come to an end at WrestleMania. But I’m convinced it won’t. I truly believe WWE wants this to go down as one of the longest reigns of all time. Now there is no way he’ll surpass Sammartino’s record, but I think he has a shot at passing Morales’ record.
