Max Griffin Can Be A Future Title Contender

Max “Pain” Griffin is a fighter in the Welterweight division for the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He is an American fighter with a height of 5 feet 11 inches and a solid 76-inch reach. He was born in Santa Barbara, California and he stays close to home as he is a part of the MMA Gold Fight Team near Sacramento, California.

Griffin does not have an unblemished record in the UFC as he is a frightening 7-7 with the promotion. However, he is now 4-1 in his last five fights. He lost a lot of his early fights to good names like Alex Oliveira, Alex Morono, and the incredible Colby Covington.

Griffin has since been on a tear winning three fights in a row with two finishes and one unanimous decision. He dropped one fight in a split decision loss to the always-tough Neil Magney who at this time was ranked inside the top ten. Then “Pain” bounced back with a split decision win over Tim Means at the UFC Fight Night: Kattar vs. Allen event.

Max Griffin’s Fighting Style

Max Griffin is an entertaining UFC fighter that is not afraid to let his hands go. He has good striking and he is more than fine with working the body. Also, Griffin’s wrestling is starting to show some real promise as he showed some resistance against Neil Magney and used his wrestling to dominate Tim Means. He has a solid gas tank and a great chin, which can be seen in how six of his losses were by decision. His only finish was a ground and pound by Colby Covington.

Griffin has strong power which can be seen in his Kenan Song KO and his demolition of Ramiz Brahimaj. He is not a KO can happen anytime type of fighter but if one wants to watch three skilled rounds of MMA then he is a great place to start.

What’s Next For Max Griffin

I believe Max Griffin can be a popular fighter in the UFC if he continues to grow as a fighter. He is already 36 years old but that gives him a couple more years to be a mainstay in the UFC rankings. As of right now, he could not win the belt but he has shown a huge progression in his fighting ability over his big 4-1 UFC run.

I think the best way to find out if “Pain” has it in him is to give him another ranked opponent. I think two great opponents would be 14-ranked Daniel Rodriguez and 15-ranked Michel Pereira. Both these matchups would cause some fireworks in the octagon. If Griffin can continue his run against some ranked opponents then he will have a chance to reach the level of a title contender. Also, he has headlined prelims on a Pay-per-view card and been a co-main event on a fight night now it is time for him to headline an event.
