Jets’ Elijah Moore Has Requested A Trade

New York Jets wide receiver Elijah Moore has officially requested a trade from the team, Ian Rapoport reports. Moore, in his second season in the league with the Jets, has reportedly grown frustrated with how he has been utilized.

The 22-year-old receiver had a solid rookie campaign for the Jets last season. He had 43 receptions for 538 yards and 5 touchdowns in 2021. Moore’s trade request comes as a result of him being underutilized in his eyes. Moore has seen a significant drop in targets this season and has yet to log a touchdown. His trade request comes after the Jets defeated the Packers 27-10 on Sunday in a game where Moore was not targeted once.

Moore was sent home prior to practice on Thursday for a “personal day.” In reality, Moore was excused from practice due to the frustration he expressed towards the coaching staff. Offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur felt it was in the best interest of the team if Moore was not there on Thursday.

The Jets have begun the season 4-2, their best start since 2015. The Jets have shown a run-heavy offense behind running-back Breece Hall this season. Their rush-heavy attack has proven to be successful thus far and is probably not something they would look to change, even if that meant pleasing Moore. For as long as the Jets do not throw the ball, Moore will become only more frustrated with his role on the team.

The Jets told sources that they are not considering trading Moore for right now. If they were to trade Moore, there are already a couple of popular landing spots for him. Teams like the Chiefs, the Buccaneers, the Packers, and the Vikings are reportedly early front runners to land Moore in the event of a trade.

Elijah Moore has failed to produce this season thus far. It comes as a surprise as he was picked by many to have a possible breakout year for the Jets. That seems to no longer be the case.

The Jets are one of the hottest teams in football right now, but Moore’s trade request does not come as a surprise. Although the Jets are not considering a trade right now, it would not be surprising to see him on a different team by the time the deadline rolls around.
