Will Brandon Scherff Stabilize The Jaguars Offensive Line?

I won’t lie to you; I am considering placing a bet on the Jaguars to win the AFC South at +700. What if Trevor Lawrence takes a monster leap in year two? What if this defense is pretty good? What if it doesn’t matter if Christian Kirk got overpaid? What if this offensive line is sneaky good? That last question may have been answered in a positive way with Brandon Scherff.

Before I even begin on Scherff, does anything matter more than the fact that Urban Meyer isn’t the head coach anymore?

“I just think [the line has] the right mindset. I think Scherff coming in really has elevated the whole group, you know,” Lawrence said Wednesday. “It’s a lot of the same guys that have been here, but bringing in him and just his veteran presence—but also just his work ethic and the way he attacks every day.”

“[He’s] always ready to go, never complains, just has that grit. He’s a little bit nasty,” Lawrence said of Scherff. “That’s something that those guys see and have seen it all OTAs and camp. To see a guy who’s had as much success as he’s had on his eighth season I believe, and still brings that intensity every day, I think it’s elevated the whole group.”

“Offensively, I think we’re a really hard-nosed team up front that can run the ball,” Lawrence said, alluding to the line’s improved grit with Scherff in town.

Scherff, 30, is a very accomplished pro and should be viewed as a good pick by the Washington front office. Before signing with Jacksonville this offseason, Scherff has earned five Pro Bowl selections and an All-Pro team selection in 2020. Regardless of the price tag, this is a really good player that’s going to help.

Cam Robinson is slowly starting to figure it out. Hopefully, the other tackle Jawaan Taylor can follow suit. The other guard and center spot surely can’t be viewed as rock solid but it’s still a until that’s much better than a year ago. Having a rockstar in the group matters.

Fun fact! Brandon Scherff will get to face his old team in Week 1. A match-up that also features Doug Pederson and Carson Wentz! You don’t want to miss it!
