It’s actually happening. The Red Sox are finally trying to play their best 26 guys. Triston Casas is being promoted to the big league club. The first baseman of the future is here.
Chris Cotillo of Mass Live was the first to report the news:
Casas, 22, is someone that Red Sox fans should be excited about. The Red Sox took their time with Casas (as they should have). On the season, Casas has hit .273 with 11 homers, 20 doubles and an .863 OPS in 72 games at AAA Worcester. Casas has also built a reputation for being one of the best defensive first basemen in the minors as well.
Casas has compared to someone like Freddie Freeman in the past. A young Eric Hosmer wouldn’t be a bad comp either. Both Casas and Hosmer went to the same High school (just many years a part obviously). Now both are teammates in Boston together.
Some serious roster moves were made to pave the way for Casas’ promotion. Tanner Houck has been placed on the 60-Day IL and is done for the season. Bobby Dalbec is being sent down to AAA. That’s hashtag hilarious for obvious reasons. Franchy Cordero remains on the big league roster but could be sent back down if Hosmer returns from the IL quickly.
It’s an exciting day for the organization. That’s the bottom line. If this young core starts to become game changers at the big league level, Chaim Bloom’s plan will look a hell of a lot better. Then again, this is a Dave Dombrowski draft pick so…
