Adoree’ Jackson Says He And Head Coach Mike Vrabel Did Not Fit Together

Cornerback Adoree’ Jackson had a fantastic career at USC, which led to him being selected 18th overall in the 2017 NFL draft. He then had a great rookie season with the Tennessee Titans as he played all 16 games while finishing with a career-high 17 pass deflections, a career-high three forced fumbles, and 70 total tackles.

Jackson had another solid year in his second year, but his play began to dip a bit over his next two years. Jackson shared a reason for his decline from his rookie year was due to the overhaul of the entire Titans coaching staff going into his second year. Head Coach Mike Vrabel was hired by the Titans in 2018, and he began making huge changes in the Titans organization. However, this huge change was bad for Jackson, as he was not the best fit with Head Coach Vrabel.

Jackson, speaking on the Cut To It podcast, which is hosted by former NFL wide receiver Steve Smith Sr., stated,

“Vrabel got there and, at the end of the day, I had to get used to him and what he wanted. The type of player he wanted and the style he wanted, as that being my first time trying to get used to it. We didn’t gel. It didn’t mesh right. My play didn’t work and the way he was coaching didn’t work for me.”

This is an interesting statement because Jackson looked promising out of college, and he had a great rookie year, but then he seemed to decline at an alarming rate. Thankfully, it appears that Jackson is still capable of being a top corner and that his last couple of years were simply a product of a less-than-ideal situation.

Adoree’ Jackson’s Future In The NFL

Although Jackson and Vrabel did not fit together, Jackson but said there are no hard feelings. He had a positive view of his time with the Titans, and he reflected on his time with Vrabel by saying,

“At the end of the day, even though we didn’t mesh as a player and coach, as people, I can resonate with some of the things he was saying. At the end of the day, I can never bash him or say anything bad.”

Jackson had a bounce-back year in his 2021 season with the New York Giants. He had one interception, eight pass deflections, and 62 total tackles in only 13 games. He is looking to improve these numbers even more heading into the 2022 NFL season as he strives to become a top cornerback in the league.

Jackson can fully be himself on the field again as he and safety Xavier McKinney try to transform the New York Giants secondary next year. There are no hard feelings between Jackson and Vrabel and hopefully, both of them can find more success in their careers.
