AEW Rampage Results & Review (7/15/22): New Title Match Announced

AEW Rampage was the second show for Fyter Fest. Fyter Fest began on Wednesday night with Dynamite and will go on for one more week. It is a two-week event with four shows that are stacked with matches. Fyter Fest always seems more elevated than regular weekly shows, and AEW Rampage was no different. Here’s everything that happened.

John Silver & Alex Reynolds (of Dark Order) vs Brody King & Malakai Black (of House of Black)

Silver and Reynolds called out House of Black on Dynamite this week. They were tired of them bullying everyone and wanted to fight. Of course, the House of Black accepted because they aren’t scared of anyone. House of Black has been dominant since they came together. It seems like every match they have, they just flat-out control. Silver and Reynolds were not intimidated by the House of Black in the slightest bit.

They brought the fight to them in a way that no other team really has. They actually got in some decent offense and the House of Black was caught by surprise. Dark Order’s effort wasn’t enough to defeat the viciousness and violence of House of Black. House of Black proved again that they are one of the most dominant factions in all of professional wrestling. As the House of Black was leaving, Darby Allin jumped off of the entrance tunnel and attacked Brody King. Allin got his revenge on King, since King attacked Allin at an autograph signing this week. Sting came walking out and had a stare-down with Malakai Black. Black and Sting walked back into the tunnels, keeping their eye on each other, while King and Allin continued to fight.

This match was as good as it could have been. Both of these teams are incredibly talented, so it’s no surprise they put on a good match. I think the Dark Order has been underutilized ever since Brody Lee passed away. I think the match did a good job at making Silver and Reynolds look strong, but without hurting the reputation of House of Black. Silver and Reynolds brought the fight to House of Black and showed why they are loved by the fans.

Winner: Brody King & Malakai Black (of House of Black)

Miro Was Backstage

Miro was backstage cutting a promo. He was claiming he could feel the devil trying to get him ever since Malakai Black spit his black mist in his face. Miro asked his God if he should let the pagans take him or rip their heads off.

This was an interesting promo because Miro toyed with the idea of joining the House of Black. He is questioning whether he should join them or fight them. Whichever he chooses, I’m all here for because it’s going to be amazing.

*Ring of Honor World Championship Match*

Lee Moriarty vs Jonathan Gresham (c) (of Tully Blanchard Enterprises)

Jonathan Gresham shocked just about everyone when he joined forces with Tully Blanchard last week. He was teaming with Lee Moriarty to take of the Gates of Agony, who is in Tully Blanchard Enterprises. Moriarty was in the match for the entire duration. He went to go tag in Gresham, but Gresham walked away. He left the ring and revealed he had joined Tully Blanchard Enterprises. Later that night, Moriarty called out Gresham for a shot at the Ring of Honor Championship.

The match went back and forth, with both men getting in the offense. It was mostly a back-and-forth affair. Gresham showed why he is one of the best technical wrestlers in the world. He put on a display like none other. Moriarty proved that he has the skills to stand toe-to-toe with the champ — although his skills weren’t enough to get him the win. After the match, Gresham and Blanchard cut a promo. They didn’t get too far in before Claudio Castagnoli came out. He didn’t say anything, but later that night ROH added a new match to the Death Before Dishonor Card. Claudio Castagnoli is facing Jonathan Gresham for the ROH World Championship at Death Before Dishonor.

Anytime I get to watch Jonathan Gresham on national television, I’m happy. He is one of the best technical wrestlers in the world. Gresham got to show people what he and Ring of Honor are all about. I think it’s a good idea to have some Ring of Honor matches on AEW Rampage. Since ROH doesn’t have a weekly show on live television, having matches of AEW Rampage and Dynamite is big. Hopefully, these matches have brought in more viewers for Ring of Honor.

Winner: Jonathan Gresham (c) (of Tully Blanchard Enterprises)

Christopher Daniels Backstage

Christopher Daniels was backstage, sending a message to Jay Lethal. He told him that when Samoa Joe finally gets his hands on him, he is going to teach Lethal a lesson. Also, he warned Lethal that if he keeps talking badly about Joe, he was going to fight him. It’s safe to assume that Daniels and Lethal are going to have a match before Death Before Dishonor, likely on an episode of AEW Rampage.

Kris Statlander & Athena vs Charlotte & Robyn Renegade

Statlander and Athena formed an alliance since they both have a common enemy in the TBS Champion, Jade Cargill. Both of these women want to fight Cargill for the title and have said they are going to keep making her life a living hell until they get it. They teamed up to take on Robyn and Charlotte Renegade. Robyn and Charlotte have been wrestling mostly on AEW Dark along with other various promotions.

Statlander and Athena brought the fight to the Renegades right off of the bat. The Renegades never recovered from the early attack. Statlander and Athena beat them fairly quickly. After the match, Leila Grey, interim baddie, went onto the ring apron and got into Athena’s face. Statlander threw Grey into the ring and the two began to attack her. Keira Hogan and Jade Cargill came down to help Grey. They quickly took care of Statlander and Athena and left.

The team of Statlander and Athena is a good one. They’re two of the best women’s wrestlers on the roster, and they showed they can work well together. Both women are extremely talented wrestlers, so it was nice to see them be able to work together. Although the match hasn’t been made official, I think we will get a triple threat for the TBS Championship soon.

Winner: Kris Statlander & Athena

Gunn Club Promo

The Gunn Club were in the ring explaining why they turned on the Acclaimed. Billy Gunn said he loved the Acclaimed just like everyone else. But, soon after, the Acclaimed came out. Max Caster didn’t have his mic and he didn’t do his normal rap down to the ring. They were looking to get revenge on the Gunn Club. They go into the ring and Billy Gunn tried to make peace. The Acclaimed declined the offering and attacked the Gunn Club.

I think the promo from the Gunn Club lacked clarity on why they actually turned on the Acclaimed. I loved the pairing of these teams, so it hurt when they split up. The fact that Caster didn’t rap down to the ring was a nice touch. We got to see a more serious side of the Acclaimed which was nice. I’m not sure where this feud is going to go in the future, but I have hopes it will at least be entertaining.

Private Party vs Lucha Bros

Both of these teams were looking for a win to gain some momentum. The Lucha Bros have been having an issue with Andrade el Idolo and his team. Andrade and Rush ripped the mask off of Penta last week, which is extremely disrespectful in Lucha Libre wrestling. Private Party is aligned with Andrade and had the tall task of beating the Lucha Bros. Andrade took some cheap shots from outside the ring without the referee seeing. The odds were stacked against the Lucha Bros. Both teams got in some good offense, which made for a great match. They have similar styles of wrestling and excellent chemistry together. Despite all the outside factors, the Lucha Bros were able to pick up the win.

I thought the match was impressive. These are two really good tag teams, so that shouldn’t come as a surprise. I’m not sure where the feud with the Lucha Bros and Andrade is going to go, but I don’t think these men are done with each other. AEW does a good job at putting on fantastic tag-team matches, so this one is worth watching.

Winner: Lucha Bros
